Obituary

East Toledo lost one of its biggest fans with the passing of Gerald W. (Jerry) Karow on May 4, 2018. Jerry passed away at home. Jerry could be seen at least once a week riding his bike downtown and around East Toledo reminiscing about his childhood growing up there. Jerry was born on December 3, 1931 in East Toledo to John and Hellen (Lupton) Karow. After graduating from high school he joined the Navy. During a weekend leave he met his future wife Doris (Fischer) at Virginia Beach. In typical "Jerry" style he got an introduction by tossing a beach ball at her. It worked and they were happily married for over 50 years until her death in 2009. They have a daughter Anna Marie. After the navy, Jerry worked as a machinist working at various shops in Toledo. He was never prouder than when he became a tool and dye journeyman retiring from A.P. Parts at the age of 63. Jerry and Doris enjoyed many happy years living on Lake Erie boating, traveling and entertaining family and friends. After Doris passed Jerry spent a lot of time with his daughter Anna, her husband Dale and granddaughters and great grandchildren taking pontoon rides and getting together for lunch at Rudy's in Point Place. Thanks to all the Rudy's staff for the great memories. Four years ago Jerry met girlfriend Dolores Guerke. They spent the years traveling, playing cards and enjoying friends and family. Jerry loved to follow politics and would debate anyone, anywhere. He was a regular in the Blade's letter to the editor column. His favorite quote was "Go Vote". We'll miss you Dad. Surviving Gerald, is his daughter Anna (Dale) Miller; Granddaughters Lauren (Rob) Johnson; Rachael (Matt) Pietscher and Kelsey Miller; Greatgrandchildren, Claire, Nolan and Hailey Johnson; Wesley and William Pietscher; Sisters Rena Mae (George) Isom; Judy, Dorothy, Joanne Karow and Nikki Pasquinelly; and Girlfriend of 4 years Dolores Guerke. Gerald was preceded in death by his wife Doris: and parents John ( Wilma) Karow and Helen (Earl) Carlton. Friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, on Friday, May 11 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 5:00 p.m. a Celebration of Life will follow at Bayside Boardwalk, 2759 Seaman Road, Oregon, Ohio.
