Gerry (Geraldine H.) Martin, 91, of Oregon, Ohio, went with the angels on October 14, 2017 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born in Ridgeway Township, Michigan to Frank and Katrin (Zahorsky) Duris on July 17, 1926. She married Earl Martin on August 15, 1945.
Gerry obtained her driver's license when it was not common for women to do so, and the taught the nuns at St. Francis de Sales, along with many others, how to drive and get their licenses. In raising her two daughters she emphasized education and insisted that her daughters go to and graduate from college at a time when it was not popular for girls to get an education. Gerry was a successful realtor for over fifty years winning many awards.
Gerry enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading, and music. She volunteered in churches and schools with her latest being fundraising for the Toledo Lighthouse Society. Gerry loved family gatherings where she always prepared homemade items to add a good 'taste' to the occasion. She will be deeply missed.
Gerry is survived by her daughter, Sandy (Frank) Bihn; grandchildren, Martin (Mary-Bec) Bihn, Ginger (Eric) Coss, Mike Clere; great-grandchildren, Alexis Duskey, Adam and Noah Bihn, Griffin, Keegan, and Cambriana Coss; great-great grandson, Ezra Duskey; son-in-law, Steve Clere; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Marsha Clere; and 11 siblings.
Friends and family may visit St. Ignatius Church, 212 N. Stadium Rd., Oregon, Ohio, 43616 on Saturday, October 21, 2017 from 10:00 am until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am.
