Gilbert James Latz, 70 years old, of Presque Isle, Michigan, died Monday evening, May 12th, 2003 in his home of cancer. He was born November 12, 1932, in Elsie, Michigan to Albert and Helen Latz, Sr. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Mary A. Latz; children Karen M. (Randy) Dixon, Jeffery S. (Bonnie) Latz, Michael J. (Lisa) Latz and Carolyn A. Ziegelhofer; grandchildren Kristopher Latz, Jeremy Latz, Emily Hoffman, Craig Latz, Megan Latz, Kori Latz, Lucas Dixon, Roger Dixon, Robert Dixon and Daniel Ziegelhofer; brothers, Richard (Rose) Latz and Thomas (Sherrie) Latz; sisters Anna (Ted) Cannell and Helen (Charles) Mort; sister-in-law Katie Latz. Gilbert was preceded in death by his granddaughter Laura Ziegelhofer, brother Albert Latz and parents. Gil graduated from Michigan State University and served in the United States Army for 2 years as a Corporal stationed in France during the Korean War. He was employed by Sears for 25 years as a Controller and Zone Controller in Toledo, Ohio and most recently became the Administrator of Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Greater Toledo and Greater Sandusky from 1985-1997. Gilbert was a member of the St. Clair Masonic Lodge #24, a 32nd Degree Masson, member of the Scottish Rite, and a Noble of the Shrine Ainad Temple of Southern Illinois, a past Commodore of Cooley Canal Yacht Club Curtice, Ohio, from 1997-1998, and a long standing member of the Club. E.C.Y.C. services will be held at 7:00 PM, May 16th, at Epworth United Methodist Church. He and his wife retired to their present home in Presque Isle Michigan in the year 2000. Family will receive friends at Epworth United Medthodist Church, 3077 Valley View Dr. at Central Ave., Ottawa Hills, Ohio on Friday, May 16th from 11-9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the the church on Saturday, May 17th at 12:00 PM.
