Gilbert Martinez, 80 of Toledo, Ohio, peacefully entered into paradise, Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, surrounded by loved ones. Gilbert was born in San Antonio, Texas on January 17, 1936 to Refugio and Hermania (Moreno) Martinez. Mr. Martinez was employed with General Motors for 30 years. He was a true Cleveland Indians fan and enjoyed Ohio State Buckeyes football. His hobbies included camping, fishing, listening to his CB radio, and playing bunco.
Gilbert is survived by his daughters, Helen Morin, Theresa (Michael) Plodzik, Peggy (Jerry) Arvizu, Cynthia Martinez, Martha Martinez, Jane (Charles) Thomas, and Rachel Rucki, Debra Mora; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; 3 sisters; and 2 brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Juanita; grandson, Jason Plodzik; and brother, Richard.
Friends may call at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon, Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Sunday, June 12, 2016 from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm. A scripture service will be held at 2:30 pm. Funeral services will begin Monday, June 13, 2016 at 8:45 am with prayers in the funeral home and proceed to Epiphany of the Lord Parish – St. Thomas Aquinas Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am.
