Obituary

Guadalupe 'œLupita' Velasquez Guerrero, 79, of Toledo, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2011. She was surrounded by her loving family as she was taken by God. Lupita was born on July 3, 1931 to Lupe and Adella (Franco) Velasquez in Toledo, Ohio. Lupita dedicated her life to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She worked at the Toledo Club for a short time and was also a Cub Scout Den Mother. She was a very kind, caring and considerate devout Catholic woman who devoted her life to God and to helping others. Lupita was an active member of St. Francis DeSalles Parish for over 40 years. Her involvement in the church and community included belonging to the Rosary Altar Society, Toledo Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, Christian Women United, The Blue Army and Riverside Hospital Pastoral Care Team. She was a minister of the Holy Eucharist and also a Sacristan. Lupita visited the sick, elderly and shut-ins. She helped the homeless and volunteered at the Volunteers of America Soup Kitchen, as well as volunteering at Riverside Hospital in the Dietary Department. Lupita attended mass faithfully and most recently became a member of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral. She also completed her cursillo at the Divine Word Seminary. She is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Gilbert C. Sr.; children, Andriana Guerrero, Mario (Jessica), Joseph Sr. (Donna), Gilbert (Chris) Jr.; and sister, Christina Velasquez; Lupita had 22 grandchildren, two of which she raised, U.S. Army Sgt. Johnathan Guerrero and Mario A. Guerrero Jr. and 20 additional 'œapples of her eye' which include, Martin Guerrero, Chris Guerrero, Jimmy Guerrero (Anda), Christina Lupita Marie Guerrero Vasquez, Mario C. Guerrero, Nicolas V. Guerrero, Rosa Maria Guerrero, Alexandria 'œAlly' Guerrero, Michael Yates Guerrero, Jesse Miller, Pedro Jackson, Pablo Jackson, Andrew Rollings, Cecelia Vargas, Monica (Mario) Halasz, Dana Guerrero-Rodriguez, Joe Guerrero Jr. (Joe), Michael V. Guerrero (Gil Jr.) and 26 great grandchildren. She was also the godmother of Renee Bedee Johnson, Nicolas V. Guerrero and Mario A. Guerrero Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents; 4 brothers and 1 sister. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Steven Gilbert Guerrero (Gil Jr.); granddaughter, Melissa M. Guerrero (Joe) and great grandson, Elijah Jackson. Nothing brought Lupita more happiness than being with her family, especially her grandchildren who she adored immensely. She will be remembered by all who knew her for her kind, loving heart and the way she always put others needs before her own. Her loss leaves an emptiness words cannot describe. Friends may call at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Monday and Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with recitation of the rosary at 7:00 p.m. both Monday and Tuesday. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Queen of the Most Rosary Cathedral Catholic Church, 2535 Collingwood Blvd. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family requests that contributions be made to Gilbert C. Guerrero Sr.
