Harold D. Smith, 84, a lifelong resident of Toledo, Ohio, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Harold was born in Toledo, Ohio, on October 19, 1931 to Harold G. and Rhea V. (O'Rourke) Smith. He was a 1950 graduate of Waite High School where he played trumpet in the jazz and marching bands. In 1953, he joined the Masonic Lodge and was a member of Barton Smith Lodge #613. Harold was employed with Willys Overland, was a kosher butcher for Siegel's Delicatessen for 25 years, and retired from TARTA in 1999. His true passion was studying the Bible. Harold will be remembered for his love and generosity towards others.
Harold is survived by his children, Carol Sue (Mark) Watson, David (Debie) Smith, Laura (Shane) Roberts, and Gloria Reetz; grandchildren, Joshua Cowell, Mark Watson Jr., Andrew (Heather) Watson, Michael (Jen) Smith, Matthew Smith, Brandon (Kayla) Smith, Amanda (Jason) Douthett, Ken (Lindsay) Smith, Joe Reetz; great-grandchildren, Morgan, Ciel, Andrew, Garrett, Sylvia, Bryanna, Adam, Conor, Zachary, Aubrey, Trystan, and Lilou; great-great-granddaughter, Sophia; along with his former wife, June Kuharchek. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Joyce E. Giles.
Friends may call at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 from 2:00pm – 8:00pm. A Masonic service will be held at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 1:00 pm in the funeral home where the family will greet friends beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Elliston Cemetery.
