Obituary

Harold "Dick" R. Ziss, 83, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away May 29, 2004. He was born in Haskins, Ohio on May 4, 1921, to Hazel and Eberthardt Ziss. Harold was a World War II Navy veteran. He obtained his bachelor degree in education from Bowling Green State University and his masters degree in psychology from the University of Toledo. He also attended Ohio Weslyan University on a Science Foundation Grant. Harold taught at Clay High School for eight years as a science teacher and then became a guidance counselor at Eisenhower Junior High School for 23 years. While working in the Oregon school district, he coached freshman boys basketball at Clay High School, girls volleyball and basketball at Eisenhower, and was Eisenhower's athletic director for 4 years. Prior to working in Oregon, he had taught at both the Pettisville and Jackson Liberty school systems. He was also active in Pettisville and Oregon summer youth recreation programs where he coached baseball. After retiring in 1984, Harold served as a substitute teacher. Mr. Ziss was a member of the Oregon Federation of Teachers where he was a past president, the Oregon Schools Auditing and Negotiations Committees, the Clay High School Band Parents, where he served as treasurer, the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, American Legion, VFW, AmVet, Maumee Elks and Moose Lodge. Harold was a member of Rossford Eagles #2322 where he served on many different committees and as chaplain, vice president, president, and past president. He also enjoyed golfing, reading, dancing, bowling and coaching youth baseball. Harold is survived by his wife of 55 years, Anne-Marie; sons, Martin and William "Bill" (Lori) Ziss; daughters, Barbara Ziss, Jeannine (Pepe) Santoro; grandchildren, Jayson Taylor, Jodie (Jim) Schroeder, Sydney and Jordan Ziss. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Merlin and Charles; sister, Ruth Crawford. Friends and family may visit at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Coy Road Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, Oregon, OH, on Monday and Tuesday from 2-9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00 am. Eagles services will be held Tuesday at 7:30 pm. Memorial contributions in Harold's memory may be given to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or the charity of the donor's choice. Visitation: Visitation Times 2-9 Monday & Tuesday Coy Road Chapel
