Obituary

Harriet Elaine Coy Koch, 87 of Toledo and formerly of Oregon, Ohio passed away Saturday, September 8, 2007 at Swan Pointe Care Center.  Harriet was born on February 1, 1920 in Windsor, Canada, and as a child was adopted, along with her sister Jeanette and brother Jack, by Earl and Elsie (Emslie) Coy of Oregon Ohio.  She attended Clay HS, Ohio State University and the University of Toledo.     Surviving are her loving husband, Byron W. Koch; children Gary Coy Koch, Jennifer E. Zak, Jack E. (Retta Stanton) Koch; 5 grandchildren Richard A. Zak, Garry B. Zak, Brittany Koch, Elliott Koch and Murray Ann Koch; 3 great grandchildren, Ethan Zak, Oliver Zak and Isabella Harriet Koch and sister, Jeanette Smith.  Harriet was preceded in death by parents and brother, Jack W. Coy.   Harriet was a well known teacher, youth advocate, and professional leader deeply involved in many community activities.  She taught in both Toledo and Oregon, was the past president of Business and Professional Women (BPW), Zonta International, Child Advocacy Association (CASA), and many others.  She was often honored for her tireless, effective and compassionate work spanning more than 50 years, including Ohio's "Women of the Year".  She also founded and managed the ABC Center, an area resource supporting education.   Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-8 p.m  and Saturday from 9-11 am at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd. and where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am.  Interment will follow in Willow Cemetery.  Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Harriet's memory are asked to consider the Alzheimer's Association.
