Harry Thayer, Jr., 80, passed away on April 3, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Harry was born in Toledo on May 5, 1932 to Harry Sr. and Leah (Kime) Thayer. He was a graduate of Waite High School Class of 1950 and a veteran of the US Navy. Harry was the owner/operator of Toledo Newsprint Trucking which has been family owned and operated for over 120 years. He was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church, a charter and life-long member of the VFW Post 2984, and a member of the Glass Capital Region Car Club. Harry loved taking gambling trips, yearly family vacations, going to area cars shows and festivals and looking over his neighborhood. Most of all, Harry was a family man. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and his grandkids.
Harry is survived by his loving wife of over 56 years, Jane (Stahl); children, Pam Thayer, Paula (Howard) Birchenough, Patrick (Becca) Thayer, Pete Thayer; sister, Jane (Bob) Papenfuss; grandchildren, Nicole Collins, Daniel (Tammy) Collins, Jennifer Horvath, Matthew and Dustin Birchenough, Brandon, Morgan and Kendalyn Thayer; great grandchildren, Samantha Grodi and Jase Collins; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Kelcie Thayer.
Friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd. on Friday, April 5, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place in the funeral home on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park. Those wishing an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Eastminster Presbyterian Church.
