Harvey Smith Jr. 84, of Toledo passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2011 in his home. Mr. Smith was born in Toledo on May 28, 1927 to Harvey and Gertrude (Chandler) Smith Sr. He was a US Army and Marine Corp veteran. Mr. Smith retired from Bingham Stamping where he worked as a crane operator for 39 years before his retirement. Harvey loved hockey and played in local traveling leagues. He served as trainer for the Woodward High School hockey team and was an avid Red Wing fan. But his true love was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Surviving are his loving wife, Rosemary; children, Ruth (Chuck) Lewis, Susan Smith, Harvey (Melissa) Smith III, Lisa Shaffer; 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Robert and Earl Smith; and was the last surviving member of 13 brothers and sisters. Friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd., on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
