Obituary

Helen A. Edler, 89, of Oregon and formerly of east Toledo, passed away on March 19, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on October 26, 1923 to August and Emma (Samson) Warner. Helen was a member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church were she served as Sunday school treasurer and was also a member of the Women of the Church. She was employed as clerk with Sterling'™s on Wheeling St., Oregon, OH for 20 years retiring in 1984. Throughout her life, Helen exemplified the spirit of giving. Always preferring kindness over conflict, she refrained from asking from others, opting instead to do for them. Complaining was not in her nature, and the beauty of the soul within was gently revealed by the unassuming little smile that perpetually highlighted her face. She was also blessed with a coy sense of humor. One of Helens trademarks was making Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls for family members, friends, and friends of friends, just one method of expressing her love. A member of America'™s greatest generation, she married husband Paul in August of 1944 before he left to join this country'™s World War II forces in Europe. Meanwhile, on the home front, she worked as a nurses'™ aide at Riverside Hospital. After the war, she and Paul contributed five children to the baby boom generation. When she wasn'™t busy tending to her family, working at the store, or participating in church functions, Helen loved the family'™s camping trips to state parks, was an avid card player, and enjoyed parlor games. Her children always looked forward to Helens Holiday cooking, loved the way she welcomed everyone that entered her home and enjoyed her nickname of 'œCharlie' In her latter years, Helen bravely stuck to her creed of never complaining despite battling severe health issues, and experiencing the loss of her devoted husband of 67 years. Her family requests that anyone attending Helens viewing please bring the Raggedy Ann or Andy doll she made for them to be put on display. They will kindly be returned afterward. Helen is survived by her children, Paul (Kris) Edler, Jr., Helen (Larry) Gross, Carol (Jeff) Bobak, Patricia (Ken) Gipe, Terri Edler; sister, Florence (Jim) West; 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul Sr.; grandson, Scott and sisters, Lillian Moore, Louise Moore and Ruth Click. Friends may call at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd., on Monday, March 25, 2013 from 2 to 8 pm. Funeral services will be conducted in Martin Luther Lutheran Church 601 Nevada St. Toledo, OH on Tuesday at 11 am. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery will be private. Those wishing an expression of sympathy in Helen'™s name are asked to consider the church or Senior Independence Hospice.
