Helen Irene Pereszlay, 91, of Birmingham, and later, South Toledo, passed away on April 5, 2004. She was born in Poughkepsie, NY, on June 18, 1912, to Frank and Julia Orosz. During her life, Helen was a domestic homemaker and enjoyed cooking and baking, especially Hungarian foods and pastries for her family and friends. Proud of her heritage, Helen could speak, read, and write Hungarian and belonged to the Hungarian Club. For many years, she was a dedicated Sunday School teacher at Calvin United Church of Christ, where she was a member for 83 years.
Helen was the widow of John Joseph Pereszlay, who passed away in 1949. Surviving are her children, Richard (Mary) Pereszlay of Arkansas, Joan Anello and Delores (George) Bradner of Toledo; grandchildren, John Pereszlay, Janice (Bob) Wahl, Jim (Donna) Pereszlay, Jackie (Marty) Wegman, Jeff Bradner, Bill Pereszlay, and Sandy (Frankie) Green; great-grandchildren, Amanda, Courtney, Tiffany, Brittney, Brian, and several nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by one grandchild, Debbie Bradner-Fett; sisters, Millie Snyder, Irma Horvath, and brother, Frank Orosz.
Visitation will be held Monday, April 12, from 2-9 p.m. at the Kinsey Funeral Home, Birmingham Chapel, 2001 Consaul St., where funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in North Oregon Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Calvin UCC or the Toledo Hungarian Club.
