Helen A. Shemak, 82, of Perrysburg and formerly of east Toledo, passed away on August 12, 2003 in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. She was born on May 8, 1921 in Ford City, PA to Louse and Elizabeth (Sojkowicv) Hodulik. On November 20, 1943, Helen married Stephen Shemak, who preceded her in death in 1993. Helen's passion in life was being a loving wife and a "Norman Rockwell" mother and grandmother. This was evident by being a wonderful homemaker. When her children were living at home, all there friends would love to come the Shemak house where they laughed, enjoyed one another and never went away hungry. Helen was a petite lady with style, but also had a very strong voice in her community. She gave much of her time as a volunteer for many organizations including the East Toledo Family Center, St. Vincent Hospital, and was still an active volunteer at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish. Helen was a wonderful Slovakian cook. She often helped out with her authentic ethnic flavors at the Cousino Restaurants.
Surviving are her children, Richard (Diane) Shemak, Theresa Shemak, Stephen (Jennifer) Shemak, Eileen (Thomas) Cousino; grandchildren, Christopher (Corinn) Shemak, Brian Shemak, Mario and Tino Morelli, Cory Cousino, Heather (Charles) Cousino-Proch, Andrea (Matt) Cousino-DeWood and Courtnay Cousino and financee, Eric Hunter; 2 great-grandchildren, Alexia and Logan Proch; brother, John Hodulik of California. .
Visitation will be held at the Eggleston-Meinert-Pavley Funeral Home, Coy Road Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, Oregon, OH on Thursday, August 13, from 2-9 p.m. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home on Friday at 9:15 a.m. and proceed to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Lake Township Cemetery. Contributions in Helen's memory can be made to St. Thomas Aquinas Church or the East Toledo Family Center.
Our Mother and grandma gave to each of us in a very special way. She will be missed by all of her family.
