Herbert C. Hinkle, 89, of Millbury, passed away peacefully at his home on September 21, 2026. He was born on October 4, 1936, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Charles and Genevieve (Musson) Hinkle.

Herbert married the love of his life, Mary Jane Posner, on November 3, 1962. She preceded him in death.

Herbert was a graduate of Lyons High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he began working at Adrian Chain and Cable for 13 years and then he worked at Chrysler for 30 years , working on the assembly line.

He was a longtime member of the United Auto Workers (UAW), a membership he proudly held since 1955. He was also a member of the Catholic War Veterans.

Herbert enjoyed traveling across the country, camping, visiting flea markets, fishing, attending gun shows, and spending time around John Deere tractors. A true history and geography buff, he loved learning and sharing what he knew with others. Herbert had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for being a jokester and the life of the party. He was, without a doubt, everyone's favorite uncle.

Above all else, Herbert cherished the time he spent with his four daughters and his family. His love, humor, and larger-than-life personality will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Jerilyn (Chip) Distel, Sheila (Doug) Murra, Melissa (Bryon) Nusbaum, and Denise (Andy Pfotenhauer) Stacey; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Genevieve Hinkle; his beloved wife, Mary Jane; his sister, Carolyn (Melvin) Lajzer; and his brother, Charles (Maxine) Hinkle.

Herbert will be remembered for his generous heart, quick wit, love of adventure, and, most of all, the love he had for his family. His memory will live on in the many lives he touched and in the stories and laughter shared by those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Memorial contributions may be made in Herbert's honor to a charity of the donor's choosing.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2026, from 1:00pm until 5:00pm at the Millbury Car Museum, 26929 Cummings Rd, Millbury, Ohio 43447. The family will be providing food, but please bring your own beverage and a funny story to share!
