Herschel Dean On October 24, 2007, Herschel D. Ulrich, entered into the Kingdom of Heaven. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on July 3, 1933, to Harold and Clara (Haas) Ulrich. Herschel was a 1951 graduate of DeVilbiss High School and attended Eastern Michigan University. During high school, he received many medals for his track and field and pole-vaulting victories. Herschel was a US Air Force veteran who served in the Korean War. He was a free lance court reporter for 40 years. Hersch was an accomplished tenor saxophone musician, and especially loved and played jazz music. In addition to his love for music, he also had a love for the martial arts. Hersch earned his second degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He was able to share his passion for martial arts with his family and friends and eventually opened "Ulrich's Tae Kwon Do" karate school in East Toledo, where he also taught many students. Surviving are his loving wife of 44 years, Nancy; children, Michelle (John) Mathers, Cindy (Tom) Ritter, Eric (Nicole) Ulrich, Roger (Wynelle) Ulrich; grandchildren, Nicole and Johnny Mathers, Christie and Brian Slaman, Brandon, Elijah, and Paris Ulrich, and Elysia, Zachary, and Allison Ulrich; brothers, Richard (Nancy), Larry (Sarah) Ulrich. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held Friday 2-9pm at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd. Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Memorial United Church of Christ at Starr and Plymouth St. where the family will greet friends 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Willow Cemetery. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Herschel's memory are asked to consider Memorial United Church of Christ.
