Hilda L. Saelzler, 96, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away peacefully Monday, May 23, 2016 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. Hilda was born in Elmore, Ohio on June 18, 1919 to William and Ida (Avers) Deetz. In 1937, Hilda graduated from Harris Elmore High School and went on to earn her Registered Nursing Degree from St. Vincent School of Nursing in 1941. She worked at Mercy St. Vincent Hospital for 10 years and Mercy St. Charles Hospital for 23 years, retiring in 1976. Hilda was a member of First St. John Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and served as the church librarian. She was an active volunteer with the Lutheran Home at Toledo and was a volunteer with the American Red Cross for 30 years. Hilda was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed ceramics and quilting.
Hilda is survived by her children, James (Patricia) Saelzler and Judith (Thomas) Schult; granddaughter, Erin Saelzler; along with several nieces, nephews, and loving family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frederick; sisters, Esther, Lillian, Alice and Wilma.
Friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd., on Thursday, May 26, 2016 from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Funeral services will take place Friday, May 27, 2016 at 10:30 am in the chapel at the Lutheran Home of Toledo, 131 N. Wheeling Street, Toledo, where the family will greet friends beginning at 9:30 am. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park.
