Howard C. Hanely, 91, formerly of Oregon, Ohio passed away on July 5, 2008 at Otterbein Portage Valley where he has lived for the past 4 years. He was born in Stoney Ridge, OH on July 11, 1916 to Clyde and Ruby (Shatzer) Hanely. Howard graduated from Lake High School where he was an All-County basketball center and baseball catcher. He was very proud of being inducted into the Lake High School Hall of Fame in 2004. Howard was employed as a glass handler for 37 years with L.O.F. and enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially photography.
He was a founding member of the Topics Camera Club (44 years) and loved to travel with his wife and present shows on the National Parks and flowers. In the last 4 years, Howard spent many hours with his grandson and "best friend", Brian (Pam) Hanely where they would talk about the Detroit Tigers, wrestling and most importantly, their passion for photography.
Surviving are his sons, Robert (Joyce) and Daniel (Jean) Hanely; 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Genny); sister-in-law, Dori and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mary Jane in 2004; brothers, Glen (Wilma), Paul (June) and Jess.
Friends and family may visit the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road Oregon, Ohio on Monday from 1-8 pm. Funeral Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:00 am with interment following in Lake Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Howards name may be given to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Otterbein Portage Valley. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the nurses and staff of Otterbein Portage Valley and his caring neighbor, Joe Ablett.
