Howard A. Michel, 92, of Toledo, Ohio passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at the Lutheran Home at Toledo. He was born in Pemberville, Ohio on July 26, 1919 to Edward and Kathryn Michel. Howard was a U.S. Marine veteran, serving his country at Guadalcanal during World War II. He had been employed by the Toledo Board of Education as a stationary engineer. Howard'™s memberships include St. Mark Lutheran Church, Pemberville VFW, the Paragon (Port Lawrence) Masonic Lodge, 32nd Degree Mason, Scottish Rite and the Order of Eastern Star.
Surviving are his daughters, Rita M. (Louis) Strong, Duxbury, MA and Gretchen (Allen) Oberdick, Reading, MI; sister, Wilma Schneider; brother, John (Annette) Michel; grandchildren, Kris (Becky) Oberdick, Hillary (John) Goldberg, John Strong, Benjamin Strong; great grandchildren, Grant and Grady Oberdick, Louisa and Molly Goldberg. Howard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty.
Friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, on Friday, August 5, 2011 from 2-8 p.m. with Lodge services at 7p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday in St. Mark Lutheran Church, 611 Woodville Road, Toledo at 10:30 a.m. with interment following in Pemberville Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in Howard'™s memory can be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Home at Toledo.
