Obituary

Howard C. Schumaker, 84, of Pickle Rd., Oregon, Ohio, passed away Sunday, December 24, 2006, in his daughter's home.  Howard was born September 16, 1922, to Henry and Vivian (Mueller) Schumaker.  He married Virginia R. Betty Ehrsam on September 13, 1946.  Howard was a lifelong member of First St. John Lutheran Church, Seaman St., Toledo where he served on church council for many years.   He was preceded in death by his wife Betty in 1994, daughter-in-law Sandy Schumaker, granddaughter Andrea Schumaker, his brother, William and sister Ruth. Howard is survived by his sons, James (Dianne); Gary and Donald (Chris); daughters, Kathy (James) Baker, Phoenix, AZ, Susan (Brad) Gunter, Phoenix, AZ. and Cheryl (Paul) Fleitz.  Howard loved spending time with 13 grandchildren, Brian (Angie) Schumaker, Bradley Baker, AZ and David Baker, CA, Jennifer (John) Schneider and Adam Schumaker, Ken (Rachel) Abbey, Kirk, Patrick and Michelle Schumaker, Trisha (Gregg) Truman, Carrie (Jason) Rhuland, Gary and Katie Fleitz.  He is also survived by 6 great grandchildren, Jillian Schneider, Isaac and Leah Truman, Jersey Schumaker, Kyle Rhuland and Clay Schumaker, sisters Edith Schuffenecker, Kate (Larry) Hohenbrink, brother Henry (Joanne) Schumaker, and sister-in-law Josie Schumaker.    Howard was a Master Plumber and owned Schumaker Plumbing & Heating.  He was a Clay High School alumnus. He was a World War II Army Veteran from 1942 1946 serving in Europe. He was a member of the The American Legion, Dunberger Post VFW, The NW Ohio Plumbers Association and many other organizations. Howard looked forward to deer hunting in Pennsylvania, fishing, gardening and washing pumpkins at his daughter's pumpkin farm.  He loved spending the winters in Arizona and Los Angeles with his daughters and grandsons.  He also enjoyed visiting residents at Orchard Villa nursing home.                     Services will be conducted Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in First St. John Lutheran Church, Seaman St., Toledo.  In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to First St. John Lutheran Church or to the Northwest Ohio Hospice Association.
