I. William Miller, 96, formerly of Oregon, passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2004 in St. Charles Mercy Hospital. Mr. Miller was born in Oak Harbor, Ohio on August 2, 1907 to Charles and Emma (Brokate) Miller. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Miller attended Bowling Green State University and The Ohio State University receiving his Bachlor of Science in education and Masters of Arts and Specialist in Education degrees. William also served as Alumni Director at BGSU from 1946 to 1950. Mr. Miller started his career in a one room schoolhouse in Oak Harbor. Over the years he was both a teacher and administrator for several area school system including Marblehead, Oak Harbor, Sylvania, Toledo, Woodville and Oregon schools. He served as principal at Keyser School in Toledo and as superintendant for the Woodville School System and the Oregon School System. Mr. Miller was a member and past president of Pi Kappa Alpha, and a member of Phi Delta Kappa (Ohio State) and Kappa Delta Pi (BGSU). His memberships also include First St. John Lutheran Church, The Exchange Club in Bowling Green where he served as past District Governor, past president of the Northwestern Ohio Education Association and past board member of the East Center for Community Mental Health.
Surviving are his loving wife, Florence; daughter, Christine (Larry) Jacobson of Westlake, OH; grandchildren, Kimberly (V. Scott) Wylie, Pamela Jacobson, Rebecca Jacobson and great grandson, Jacob William Wylie. He was preceded in death by his brother, Clyde Miller; sisters, Orlena Hillman, Ida Damschroeder and Mildred Dipner.
Friends and family may visit at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Coy Road Chapel from 2-9 p.m.
on Friday. Funeral services will be held at First St. John Lutheran Church on Saturday at 10:30 am. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park in Monroe, MI. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in I. William's memory are asked to consider either First St. John Day School or Miller-Baker Book Scholarship Fund at BGSU.
