Irene A. Csengeri, 94, of Toledo, Ohio passed away on August 2, 2003 at Harborside Healthcare Rehabilitation and Nursing Center-Point Place where she lived for the past five years. She was born on March 3, 1909 on Kelly's Island, Ohio to Miklos and Suzanna (Furlda) Karkusz. Irene moved to Toledo with her family and later married Michael S. Csengeri. She attended Davis Business College, worked at Libbey Glass and at Electric Autolite. Irene retired from Bargain City in 1974. She then worked for several years at the rectory at St. Stephen's. For most of her life she was a member of St. Stephen's Church and belonged to the Rosary Altar Society. In 1998 she received a Certificate of Recognition for being one of the oldest living alumni of St. Stephen's School. Irene liked to crochet and was particularly successful in cultivating African violets. In later life she took up sewing.
Irene is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister; Mary Pocs, brothers, Joseph and Nicholas; son-in-law, Sam Fuller; and granddaughter, Nannette Fuller. Surviving are her two daughters, Irene E. Fuller and Karen Csengeri; grandsons, Patrick (Cheryl) Fuller, Mark Fuller, Matthew (Candace) Fuller, Eric Fuller, William Fuller; granddaughters, Jan (Chris) Elwing, Marlene Fuller and Caroline (Tim) Fritz; great-grandson, Sam John Fuller; sister, Gizella Feyedelem and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, August 8, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in Calvary Cemetery. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 2018 Consaul St., Toledo, Ohio. Arrangements are being handled by the Kinsey Funeral Home, Birmingham Chapel, 2001 Consaul St., Toledo, OH. The family would like to offer a special thank you to the staff at Harborside Healthcare-Point Place for their care and concern.
