Obituary

Irene A. Hornayk, Jan. 10, 1918 - Dec. 24, 2006 "I am the lord who created you; from the time you were born, I have helped you" Isaiah 44;2 The Lord created Irene to be a sweet daughter, loyal sister, faithful wife, loving mother and concerned and loving grandmother and very proud great-grand-mother. Full of love she worked hard to build a family that is blessed because of her example and gentle spirit. Irene was born in Toledo on January 10, 1918, to Andrew and Elizabeth (Hornyak) Mascsak. She married Steven Hornyak on November 25, 1936, at St. Stephens Catholic Church. She was a homemaker who lived her life in the Birmingham area of East Toledo. Irene shared her life with many friends in the neighborhood. She was a 2 term president of St. Stephen's School Mother's Club, as well as a charter member and past president of the Altar Rosary Society and an active worker at many of the school and church dinners and functions throughout the years. She bowled and enjoyed playing cards with her siblings and many dear friends. Her hobbies included crocheting, golfing, cooking and baking, but her greatest joy was sharing time with her children, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many other children who were in her life. Irene had a great sense of humor and would make a stranger feel loved and cared for. She would brighten up when her family and friends paid her a visit. She especially enjoyed seeing those little great-grandchildren. Many a night was made brighter as she had her "picnics" with her neighbors and friend, Earl with their "jelly donuts". Irene will be greatly missed by her family and everyone who was fortunate to be a part of her life. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Irene Csanyi; son, Stephen (Dianne) Hornyak; grandchildren, David Jace Barciz, Linda Marie (Wayne) Barciz-Swisher, Robin Marie (Ray) Leffler, Michelle Marie (Gary) Orr and Stephen Paul (Amanda) Hornyak; great-grandchildren, Bradley Barciz, Samantha Swisher, Danielle and Ashley Leffler, Alexandra, Rachel, Haley, Christian and Gabriella Orr, Chelsea, Megan and Olivia Hornyak; sister, Katherine Soltis and sister-in-law, Ann Mascsak and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Steven; brothers, Andrew and Alex Mascsak and sisters, Margaret Jacob, Elizabeth Pavuk and Rose Osstifin. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2006, from 2 to 9 p.m. in the Kinsey Funeral Home, Birmingham Chapel, 2001 Consaul St., Toledo, OH where a Rosary service will be held at 4 p.m. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home on Thursday at 9:45 a.m. and proceed to St. Stephen's Church for the Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Irene's memory may be made to St. Stephen's Church. The family wishes to thank the staff at Orchard Villa for all of their loving care. Also a special thanks to Fr. Frank Eckart. Irene was ready to go home and she will be waiting at heavens' "Main and Sixth" to join all her family and friends in God's lovely home.
