Obituary

Irene T. Klocinski, 88, of Toledo , Ohio passed away peacefully March 2, 2012 in her home. She was born in Toledo , Ohio on June 24, 1923 to Charles and Elizabeth (Pecsenye) Waryu. She was a 1942 graduate of Waite High School . Irene served her country during World War II in the U.S. Navy, and was stationed in Hawaii for 1 ½ years as well as being stationed in Washington, DC. In 2009, Irene had the honor of being a guest on Northwest Ohio '™s Honor Flight. Irene was a founding member of the former Lois Wetmore American Legion Post 617, a member of the VFW Post 4906, and the American Arthur Daley Post. She was employed as an Office Manager for the Maumee Valley Girl Scout Council and as a stenographer for the City of Toledo Police Department in the Records Bureau, Crime Lab, and retired from the Income Tax Department in 1991. Irene was a member of Calvin United Church of Christ, and was very active there, being a member of the Lorrantffy group, Kolbasz makers and the embroidery group. Irene was also a Birmingham Hall of Fame Inductee. After retirement, she worked as a volunteer at St. Vincent '™s. Her greatest pleasure was when she became a volunteer tutor at Oakdale School . She really enjoyed working with the children and was instrumental in helping them raise their grades. Irene was also a tutor in the STARS program operated through the East Toledo Family Center . Surviving are her children, Jane (Louis) Huth, Barbara Lavender, Cynthia (Robert) Gatewood and Thomas (Darlene Hile) Klocinski; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Eleanor Sharp, Sandra (Denis) Marsh and brother, Jim (Jane) Waryu; Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Francis 'œPete'; infant children, Kenneth and Judith; and sister, Betty Sipert. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Kinsey-Pavley Funeral Home, 2001 Consaul St. , Toledo, where VFW service will be held a 7 pm.. Funeral services will be conducted in Calvin United Church of Christ, 1946 Bakewell St. , on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. and where the family will greet friends beginning at 10:00. Interment will be private. Expressions of sympathy in Irene'™s memory can be made to Calvin United Church of Christ, the Hungarian Club of Toledo, or Hospice of Northwest Ohio. The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Hospice, and a special thanks to Lisa, for the kind and compassionate care they showed Irene.
