Obituary

Irene Ella Nagy, 88, of Toledo, passed peacefully from this life to the next surrounded by her loving family, on July 19, 2012 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 18, 1924 to Otto and Ella (Endler) Puls. She graduated from Amundson High School in 1942. She married Stephen F. Nagy on July 5, 1947 and they enjoyed 65 years together. They were a beautiful example of lasting love. Irene worked as a switchboard operator for Illinois and Ohio Bell. She retired from the Toledo Academy of Medicine in 1984. In her heyday, Irene was "fletcher supreme" at the Nagy Bros Archery Shop. She was an active leader from Brownies to Senior Scouts, grudgingly becoming an expert camper and proudly leading the girls to Washington, D.C. Irene was an active member of St. Stephens Catholic Church, Rosary Altar Society, St. Vincent DePaul Society, and generously gave her time to those in need. Irene enjoyed Hungarian embroidery, cheering for the Cleveland Indians, and traveling with her husband and grandchildren. Irene will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and love of her family. She was especially delighted to watch her great-grandchildren grow. She is survived by her loving husband, Stephen F. Nagy; son Stephen F. Jr. (Penny), daughter Jane N. (Paul) Thompson; grandchildren Christina (Paul) Emerson and Michael Nagy, US Navy; and great-grandchildren Cadi and Jack Emerson, as well as many dear nieces, nephews, and friends. She is predeceased by her parents and brother Earl Otto Puls. So that others may learn, Irene has donated her body to The University of Toledo Medical College. Friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road Oregon, OH 43616 on Thursday July 26, 2012 from 3-8 pm with recitation of the rosary at 4 pm. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, July 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephens Catholic Church, Consaul St., Toledo with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Memorials may be made to St. Stephen'™s Church, Helping Hands of St. Louis, Toledo or a charity of the donor'™s choice. Additionally, Irene would be pleased if you would give your time to someone in need, plant some daisies, or send a friend some cookies. The family extends a special thank you to the nurses and aides of Mercy St. Vincents Neuro ICU and Palliative Care Unit, as well as those of Hospice, for their kindness and compassion during Irenes last days. "Hers was a life well lived."
