Irene S. Nero, 98, life-long resident of the Birmingham Neighborhood, passed away February 19, 2009 in her granddaughter's home. Irene celebrated her 98th birthday at Toledo Hospital with her family and friends. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on January 23, 1911 to Steven and Rose (Fogash) Olah. In her earlier years, Irene had been employed at the Autolite and Tiedtke's. She retired from St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center where she worked in the food service department. Irene was a member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking and baking. Irene attended the Hungarian Festival every year.
Surviving are her daughters, Irene (Stanley) Feldstein and Diane (Jim) O'Connell; sister, Dorothy Klein; brothers, Joseph and Louie (Mary Jeanne) Olah; 10 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 27 great-great grandchildren. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Daniel; son, Daniel; brothers, Steve, John and James; sisters, Helen Hubbard, Rose Barker and Betty St. George.
Friends and family may visit at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Tuesday from 2-9 p.m. and Wednesday, February 25, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in Irene's memory can be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Special thanks to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, special friend, Jana and granddaughter, Terry, great-granddaughter, Shannon for helping Irene prepare for her final journey. Irene was loved by many and will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her.
