Obituary

Isaiah "Spike" Halsey, 90, of Oregon, Ohio passed away August 20, 2018 at Perrysburg Commons where he had been residing for the last two years. He was born in Toledo, Ohio, on March 2, 1928 to Alta (Pennington) and Isaiah Halsey. Spike began working at Art Iron in Toledo while he was co-op student at Macomber Vocational High School in Toledo in 1944. After graduating and serving in the U.S. Marines for two years, Spike was hired at Art Iron in 1949, retiring after 41 years as a shop superintendent. He married Mary Jane Whitman on August 26, 1950, and she preceded him in death on April 22, 2014. Spike was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church on Woodville Road in Toledo. He was also a member of the Penta County Vocational High School Advisory Board, serving many years. He enjoyed woodworking, playing golf in various golf leagues, and was The Ohio State Buckeye's #1 fan as evidenced by the buckeye he always carried in his pants pocket. Most of all, Spike will be always remember for his smile, sense of humor, and his love for his family. Surviving are his daughters, Sarah (Bill) Aldridge and Jenny (Robert) Berry; son, Daniel (Cheryl) Halsey; grandchildren, Ara and Brook Halsey, Chad Aldridge, Betsy (Nick) Yankopolus, Mollie (Matt) Stiffler, and Samuel (Kim) Berry; 5 great-grandchildren. Spike was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Arthur Halsey, Estel Halsey, Theodore Halsey and Ernestine Sweet. Friends and family will receive friends at Eggleston-Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd., Oregon, Ohio 43616 on Thursday, August 23, 2018 from 2-8 pm. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Friday, August 24, 2018 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in North Oregon Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in Spike's memory can be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church or Heartland Hospice. The family would like to thank the staff at Perrysburg Commons and Heartland Hospice for all the love, wonderful care and compassion given to him while he was a resident and also during his final days.
