Jack Edward Wineland, age 92, born December 29, 1928 in Lepsic, Ohio, passed away on December 21, 2021 at The Lakes of Sylvania under the care of Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Jack was the youngest child of 7 children born to Vero (Myers) & John Wineland. Vero passed in 1939 and John married Margaret Rahm. Jack graduated from Macomber High School in 1947 in drafting and worked at Libbey Glass while co-oping. On July 30, 1949, he married Margaret Elizabeth Frahn. He worked at E.W.Bliss, A.P.Parts, LOF Rossford, G.W. Frahn Machine Shop, Toledo Hospital, Sun Color Lab, and taught at Owens College for 3 years. He was a UAW union officer for Local 14 (E.W.Bliss), a scout master at Pilgrim Church, a Junior Achievement advisor and Explorer Post advisor. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and car mechanics. He was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge for over 60 years, (Lodge #0643). His family, friends, and neighbors all enjoyed him being a handyman in his spare time. He stated "It's the engineer in me" whenever we questioned his precise decisions. He was known for his schematic drawings for outside Christmas decorations and his "to-spec" layout of his apartment and furnishings when he moved to Moongate.
Jack is survived by his children, Dewey (Marsha) Wineland, Don Wineland, Diane (Thomas) Hoover and Amy Kroggel. Jack and Margaret shared their joys of 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren and 59 nieces and nephews. He was often heard giving his grandsons advice and a rough time about their choices and lauding his granddaughters on their successes. Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; son, Dale Wineland; daughter, Debra Taylor; son-in-law, Darryl Kroggel; brothers, Dewey (Gertrud), Charles (Mary Kay), Ralph (Wanda), Richard (Ruth); and sisters Mary K (Wayne Peterson) and Helen (Ken Brown).
The family will receive friends at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road Tuesday, December 28, 2021 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Private graveside services will be held at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
