Jacqueline "Jackie" Alex passed away peacefully on June 29th, 2017 while residing at Atria Assisted Living in Virginia Beach, VA at the age of 92. Jacqueline was born on September 27th, 1924 in Wayland, Kentucky. She spent the majority of her life living in Northwest Ohio where she had a successful career as a tour manager for the American Automobile Association and was an active member in the Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary of the Logsdon Walla Post 639 where she held local, state, and national offices to include National Auxiliary President.
Jacqueline received several awards during her 60 years of dedicated service with the CWVA. Among these honors were the citation for Meritorious Service to the Chapel of the Four Chaplains; Ohio Auxiliary Woman of the Year; the Honor Legion of the Order of St. Agnes; National Catholic War Vets President's Gold Medal Award for Outstanding Service; and formal recognition from the U.S. House of Representatives for her service to our nation and it's veterans. Jacqueline was a selfless, intelligent, and loving person that touched the lives of countless people. She approached everything with optimism, gratitude, and grace and will be remembered by both family and friends for her wisdom, wit, and generosity toward others.
Jacqueline is survived by her Son, James S. Alex, her Grandchildren, John E. Alex, M.D., Amy Alex, and Emery Alex and her Great Grandchildren, Conner Alex and Morgan Alex. She is preceded in death by her Husband, Emery J. Alex, Son, John Alex, and companion Raymond Young who was a special part of her life for over 30 years.
Services will be Monday, July 10, 2017 at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church, 719 Eversham Avenue, Toledo beginning with visitation at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 AM officiated by Fr. Greg Peatee. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to The Chapel of Four Chaplains Memorial Foundation. 1201 Constitution Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19112.
