James A. Brough, age 85, of Toledo, OH was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 29, 2021 during a brief stay at Mercy St. Charles hospital.
The first-born child of Carl and Glenna Brough, Jim's journey began on May 10, 1935, in Ross Township, the area now known as Northwood, Ohio.
A 1952 graduate of Olney High School, he possessed a long-time interest in sports, playing varsity basketball and baseball, and later Federation baseball, softball, and league bowling for over 63 years.
Soon after completing his education, he began a career in the construction trades as a bricklayer - a talent he shared for the next six decades.
Jim served his country as an MP in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960 and was appointed to the Toledo Fire Department in 1965. He served his city faithfully in that role until his retirement in June 1989. Since Jim loved to drive, he and his wife Jeanene frequently crisscrossed the United States by car during their 49-year marriage.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and first wife Nancy, mother of his daughters.
He is survived by Jeanene; daughters Lisa (Ken) Leese, Linda Brough, Laura Tabb and son Stephen (Katy) Brough; grandchildren, Ryan (Sarah) Kowalski, Isaac (Devyn) Leese, Olivia Leese, Emily Leese, Uriah Leese, Gunner Tabb, Liberty Brough and Ethan Brough; great granddaughter, Mikayla Kowalski; and brother Larry Brough.
Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home – 440 S. Coy Rd., Oregon – will host visitation from 2 PM until 8 PM on Friday, April 2nd, 2021 with a Toledo Firefighter's Last Alarm service beginning at 7 pm.
Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 AM, Saturday, April 3rd, 2021. Pastor Stephen Lutz will officiate and burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery.
