James "Jim" L. D'Anniballe born June 8, 1929 in Bradley, Ohio passed away on September 20, 2018 due to complications of congestive heart failure. Jim was born to Camillo & Lucy (Volney) D'Anniballe. Jim's father Camillo died in 1930 in a tragic car accident & his mother Lucy eventually remarried & relocated to Dillonvale, Ohio. At a young age Jim had to withdraw from school to help provide for the family, and in May 1946 he found work as a Mail Pouch Tobacco Sign Painter. Wanting to improve his life Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army & was sworn in on January 30, 1947. Jim was stationed at San Cristobal in San Juan, Puerto Rico. At 17 Jim was assigned to Motor Pool and shortly after his arrival he was 1 of 2 soldiers to receive a promotion to Corporal. This is where he met his wife Smyrna "Minnie" Isabel Prieto. They married on September 5, 1949 and moved to Dillonvale, Ohio after his honorable discharge on December 30, 1950. Jim gained employment with the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad in February of 1951 as a trackman. On October 16, 1962, he was promoted to Vice Chairman Secretary Treasurer of the Nickel Plate Wheeling-Lake Erie Federation Labor Organization in Toledo, Ohio. Jim held this position until February 3, 1964 when he was elected to serve as the General Chairman of BMWE. Jim has held positions of Vice General Chairman; President of the Norfolk & Western Benefits Association; Chairman of the North East Region Brotherhood of Maintenance Employees & was appointed by the International President Chairman of the Constitutional Bylaws before retiring on June 1, 1991. Knowing the sacrifices her father made at a young age his daughter Patti worked with the school district to help Jim get his well-deserved, high school diploma in October 2017 at the age of 88.
Jim & Minnie were married for 67 years before her passing on December 3, 2016 and were blessed with 3 children. Jim was very involved with his church & served as an Usher at Holy Rosary Church for 37 years before transitioning to St. Stephens after Holy Rosary closed. Jim had many hobbies including fishing, but he also noted that he was the best sideline coach at all his kids, grandkids and great grandchildren's sporting events. He was preceded in death by his parents Camillo & Lucy, his 3 brothers Paul, Alfred, and Joseph, his grandchild James and his wife Minnie. Jim is survived by his 3 children Priscilla (John) D'Anniballe-Murphy, Patricia D'Anniballe, & John (Melody) D'Anniballe; 6 grandchildren Jill Mathews, Robert (Danielle) Hyott, Lori (Jerrod) Holly, Daniel Hyott, David D'Anniballe, & Jerin (Taylor) D'Anniballe; 10 great grandchildren; and 1 soon to be great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held on Friday September 28th from 2pm till 8pm with a Rosary service at 4:00 p.m. at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd, Oregon, OH 43616. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at St. Stephens Church, 1880 Genesee St. Toledo, OH 43605 at 10:00 am with viewing at the church starting at 9:00am. Final resting place will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Hill and Holland Sylvania Rd. Toledo, OH following mass.
