James A. Haley, 86, of Oregon, passed away on May 8, 2015 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was born on September 19, 1928 in Toledo, Ohio to Andrew and Helen (Murphy) Haley. Jim graduated from Bowling Green State University and was a US Army Veteran who served his country during the Korean War. He began his career at Lasalle's Department Store in 1957 where he served as credit manager until 1981. He also worked for Wabash – Lagrange Steel Company. Jim served on the Oregon City Council from 1973-1983 and again from 1991-1993. Between his council terms, he served Oregon as the Mayor from 1983-1989 and again from 1993 until 2001. Jim was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church, the Dunberger American Legion Post and VFW Post #9816.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Jaynann (Randy) Huss; grandchildren, Lisa (Matthew "Dewey") Dunn, Jenna (Evan) Rankin, and James Huss. Great-grandchildren Gabrielle, Colton & Easton Dunn. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane (Portale), parents, sisters, Rosemary Wheeler, Helen Margaret Wheeler; brothers, Jack and Tom Haley.
Friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd. on Monday, May 11, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with recitation of the Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 212 Stadium Rd., Oregon on Tuesday May 12, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. The family will greet friends at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery. Those wishing an expression of sympathy in Jim's name are asked to consider St. Ignatius Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
