James O. Hecklinger, loving husband, father, son and brother, 60, of Genoa, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, March 21, 2015, surrounded by his family.
Jim was born in Oregon, Ohio, on May 19, 1954 to Robert and Elisabeth (Hirzel) Hecklinger. He was a 1974 graduate of Waite High School. On September 21, 1984, he married the love of his life, Sandra Shaink in First St. John Lutheran Church where he was a lifelong member. For 28 years, Jim worked as an assistant foreman with the Ohio Turnpike Commission. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family on Big Platte Lake in Northern Michigan. A dedicated outdoorsmen, Jim enjoyed fishing, waterfowl and deer hunting with his brothers. Jim was looking forward to retirement, traveling and spending time on his pontoon boat. A dedicated fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, he also enjoyed cooking and camping. He had a passion for helping others; from close family members to total strangers. Jim's greatest accomplishment was raising his daughters and will be remembered for being the greatest dad in the world and for his quick whit and wonderful sense of humor.
Jim is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sandra; daughters, Kristine (Nick) Miller and Holly Hecklinger; brothers, Bob (Debra) Hecklinger and Rick (Cathy) Hecklinger; brother-in-law, Ronald Predmore; aunt, Marilyn White; along with many nieces, nephews, in-laws, loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Karen Predmore.
Friends may call at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon, Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Thursday, March 26, 2015 from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 27, 2015 at 11:00 am in First St. John Lutheran Church, 2471 Seaman Road, Toledo, and where the family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to First St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund.
