James "Jim" Smart 76, of Oregon, OH, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2005, in his home. Mr. Smart was born on the east side of Toledo in Ironville on July 21, 1928, to Elmer and Helen (Gibbons) Smart. Jim was proud of being born and raised in Ironville and regularly attended their reunions. Mr. Smart served in the United States Navy. He would go on to work on the freighters on the Great Lakes. Mr. Smart would later be employed as an engineer for the Norfolk and Western (Nickel Plate) Railroad for 25 years before retiring in 1980.
Surviving are his sons, Randy (Tammy) and Gary (Anne) Smart; daughter, Wendy (Dennis) Reagan; brother, Richard Smart; sisters, Elizabeth (Don) Miller and Jean Florek, and grandchildren, Kyle, Chuck, Mandy and A.J. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Elmer Smart; sisters, Isabelle Mayhugh, Delcie TenEyck, Marilyn Fruits, Sharon Thone and Karen Durham.
Friends and family may visit on Tuesday April 19 from 2 to 9 p.m. in the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road at Starr Avenue, where funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorial contributions in Jim's honor can be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
