James J. Korotnayi, 87, of Toledo, passed away on June 27, 2016 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born in Lorain, Ohio on September 24, 1928 to Charles and Helen (Simon) Korotnayi. Jim was drafted into the Army where he served in the Korean War. During his service, Jim played football for the Army and even coached while in Germany. After the war, James worked for Jeep for over 39 years before retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church where he was a member of the Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus and Our Lady of Fatima. Jim was also a member of the UAW and the VFW Post 4906. He loved woodworking and was a real craftsman, making well over 30 dollhouses for his family and friends as well as other crafts.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Anna; children, Jackie Korotnayi, Jeannie (John) Dishaw, Jill Korotnayi, Charlie (Christine), Karen (Tim) Startzman, Lori (Dave) Balogh; grandchildren, Nick (Rachelle), Sarah, Michael, Jake, Reighly; great grandchildren, Harlow, Hunter, Channing, Zoey, Connor; sister, Delores (Leo) Hodge. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, James Jr., Jeffrey; sister, Velma; brothers, Andrew and Charles.
Visitation will be held at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S, Coy Road on Friday from 4-7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 2, at Epiphany of the Lord St. Stephen's Catholic Church 2018 Consual St. at 11:00 AM where the family will greet friends one hour prior to the mass. Inurnment will follow in Lake Township Cemetery. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Jim's memory are asked to consider the American Heart Association.
