James V. Romstadt, 95, of Oregon, Ohio passed away August 26, 2012 at Orchard Villa. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on August 30, 1916 to Arnold W. and Jane 'œJennie' (Parker) Romstadt. On February 20, 1941, he married Bernice Rupp, and together they enjoyed 62 years of fishing and boating on Lake Erie. James had been employed as a carpenter at the downtown Toledo Lion Store for 26 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. James was a member of First St. Mark Lutheran Church. He was the oldest and longest charter member of the CCYC. His other memberships include the Bayview Yacht Club, life member of the Dunberger Post, member of the GAF Retirees, Swiss, GBU. James had just received his 65 year pin from the Carpenters Local #1138.
Surviving is his daughter, Janiece (Ray) Schmidt and loyal canine companion, 'œGuinness'. James was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 62 years, Bernice; brother, Richard A. Romstadt; sisters, Mary Jane Urbanski, Margarete 'œMarge' Henninger and Helen Davies.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3-8 p.m. at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with interment following in Toledo Memorial Park. Memorials may be directed to First St. Mark Lutheran Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
