James E. Saddoris, age 69, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2005. Born on July 3, 1936 to the late John H. and Esther D. Saddoris, Jim had two brothers, Jack and Jerry (deceased) and was a 1954 graduate of Whitmer High School.
Jim married Kathleen A. Crye in 1957 and they had two daughters, Michelle Kay (Bernie) Quilter and Jenny Lea (Ron) Koles. Jim began his career in law enforcement in 1960 as an Ohio State Patrolman. After a few years he realized that he would need a college degree to advance in his field. So, at the age of 29, Jim began a college career and eventually graduated from BGSU with a Bachelors Degree in Education and a Masters Degree in Public Administration. In 1968, Jim went to work for the CIA and traveled to South Viet Nam to help train their military police during the Vietnam War. It was there that he developed a passion for oriental food. Once back, Jim became Director of Safety and Security at BGSU and then Police Chief of Oregon, Ohio. When the political tides turned, and his wife, Kathleen passed away in 1977, Jim left his law enforcement career to teach at DeVilbiss High School. He also became a platoon sergeant in the 983d Engineer Battalion of the Army Reserves and dabbled into politics as an Oregon City Councilman.
In the 1980's Jim met and married Cynthia A. Northcott and they had two sons, Timothy James and Benjamin James. Before persistent illness struck Jim, he and Cindy enjoyed investing in real estate and became organic farmers and dog breeders on a 57 acre farm in Montpelier, Ohio. Jim eventually moved back to Oregon to be closer to his two daughters.
Surviving are Jim's four children, grandchildren, Kenneth, Michael, and Kathryn Quilter and Chad, Jenelle, and Jacob Koles, and brother, Jack Saddoris.
