James G. Veronie, 96, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, March 1, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born June 13, 1925 in Toledo, Ohio to George and Constantine (Dimitriadis) Veronie. He attended Waite High School and graduated from Macomber High School in 1942. Mr. Veronie was drafted into the United States Army and served honorably during World War II. On January 22, 1956, he married Irene Vergetis. Jim was employed with Libbey-Owens-Ford and Starr Vending, retiring in 1990. Throughout Jim's life, he was an active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church; serving as Parish Council President and co-chairman of the Greek Festival for many years. While his children were growing up, Jim was active with Waite High School Athletic Boosters and could be found on the sidelines cheering on his children. In his free time, Jim enjoyed many sports and fishing Lake Erie with his sons.
Jim is survived by his wife of 66 years, Irene; children, George (Christine) Veronie, Dr. Linda (Dr. David Fruehstorfer) Veronie, Arris Veronie and Christopher Veronie; sister, Effie Koinis; along with many nieces, nephews, loving family members and friends. Preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, William Veronie, Catherine Stathulis, Pete "Butch" Veronie, Annie Slee, Leah Sares, and John Veronie.
The family will receive friends at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 740 N. Superior Street, Toledo, Friday, March 4, 2022 from 10:00 am until funeral service at 11:00 am with a Trisagion Prayer Service at 9:45 am. Private interment: Willow Cemetery.
