James Thomas Zickes, 54, of Holland, Ohio, passed away peacefully September 11, 2013, surrounded by family and friends, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jim was born June 5, 1959, in Cleveland, Ohio. He attended Lakewood High School and was a proud member of the Lakewood High School cross country team, where he lettered all 4 years. Jim also lettered three years in track. He was a graduate of Case Western Reserve University. Jim worked as a metallurgist for Worthington Steel for 24 years, most recently as Quality Manager at Worthington Steel Delta. Jim was a devoted son, husband, and father and loved spending time with family.
Jim is survived by his wife, Karen (Vascik), daughter Morgan and sons Gregory and Nathan; mother Evelyn (Janas) Zickes; siblings Jill, Jeff, Jack, Jennifer Woomer (Ben), Joe (Kara), Paul (Doreen), Julie Laub (Mike); father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clement and Elinore Vascik. Jim is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, James.
Family will receive guests on Sunday September 15 at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. Toledo, OH 43623 from 2-8p.m. and where a scripture service will be held at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass for Jim will be held on Monday, September 16 at St. Joan of Arc Church, 5950 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, OH 43614 at 11a.m. with visitation one hour prior at the church. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
