Jane G. Rice, 89, of Oregon, OH, passed away Monday, June 19, 2006, at St. Charles Mercy Hospital from complications of congestive heart failure. Jane was born July 23, 1916, to Edward and Hazel Schmidlin. Her grandfather, John Schmidlin, emigrated from Germany in 1850, served in the civil war and later pioneered in Oregon Township. He owned several acres near the corner of Coy and Starr where Jane's father, Edward, farmed and built a Sears home on the property in 1915. Jane's house was honored by the Oregon Jerusalem Historical Society as being a home still owned and occupied by the original family. Jane attended the Homestead Elementary School, located on the corner of Coy and Seaman Rd. Jane was in the first class of the new Clay Elementary, which was built in 1927. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and brother, John Schmidlin. She is survived by her children, Sue Jones and Fred C. (Wanda) Rice; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grand-children; 3 great-great-grand-children. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday June 19, 2006 at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, where the family will greet friends after 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in North Oregon Cemetery. Visitation: Visitation Times Tuesday, 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Oregon Chapel
