Janice R. Whitaker, 73, of Toledo, Ohio, formerly of Corryton, Tennessee, passed away on September 21, 2014 surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. Janice was born in Toledo, Ohio, May 15, 1941 to John and Velma (Steele) Scott. Janice graduated from Waite High School and then attended the Northwest Ohio Practical School of Nursing. She worked in Orlando, Florida, Knoxville, Tennessee, and at the Knox County Sheriffs Department for a total of 49 years as a nurse before retiring in 2005. Later that year she married Grant Whitaker Sr. Janice lived most of her life in Corryton, Tennessee, and was a member of the Eastern Star. She took great pride in working with the geriatric society, and the Alzheimer'™s Association Memory Walk. She loved working in her garden and finally got the burning bush she always wanted.
Janice is survived by her husband, Grant; daughter, Kimberley (John) Butler; sister-in-law, Judith (Ron) Miller; and brother-in-law, Jerry O'™Blenis. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister-in-laws, Sue O'™Blenis, Carol Powell; and step-son, Kevin Whitaker.
Keeping with Janice'™s wishes, funeral services will be private. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Promedica Ebied Hospice. The family would like to give a special thanks to all the nurses who cared for Janice. Eggleston-Meinert & Pavley Funeral Homes are assisting the family.
