Jean L. Oberkiser 93, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family Monday, February 22, 2021. Jean was born in Marion, Indiana April 17, 1927 to Edward and Elizabeth (Kraft) Langendorfer. In 1945, Jean graduated from Waite High School. Jean met the love of her life, Philip Oberkiser at the Trianon Ballroom, Toledo and were united in marriage September 7, 1946. In 1949, Jean & Philip established Advance Advertising; a promotional products business for 31 years, retiring in 1980. The business continued operation under the guidance of Jean & Philip's nephew, Lucky Langendorfer for 33 years. In 2013, Jean and Philip's grandson, Shawn Murphy, took over as 3rd generation owner of the company. Jean was a lifelong member of St. Mark Lutheran Church where she was active with the Esther Circle, Altar Guild and Neighborhood Ministries. She had a passion for reading and served as a reading tutor at Coy Elementary School for 10 years. Jean was a lifelong quilter and member of the Cellar Sewers and Black Swamp Quilt Guild, Bowling Green. Her true love was spending time with her family whom she loved dearly.
Jean is survived by her daughters, Gail (Joe) Baranski and Laura (Jay) Hillyer; grandchildren, Sarah (Eddie) Avina, Shawn (Cari) Murphy, Rachel Hastings, Alec Hillyer, and Emily Hillyer; great-grandchildren, Alex, Caitlyn, Arianna, Haleigh, and Connor; along with many nieces, nephews, loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 55 years, Philip; daughter and son-in-law, Ann (Robert) Murphy; great-grandson, Brendan Murphy; brothers, Edmar Langendorfer and Paul Langendorfer; along with Jean's "Club Girls" from Waite High School.
The family will receive friends at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 611 Woodville Road, Toledo, Saturday, February 27, 2021 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. Private funeral services will be livestreamed via St. Mark Lutheran Church Toledo Facebook Page Saturday following visitation. Interment: Toledo Memorial Park.
