Jean Mary Scherack-Samuels, 78, passed away peacefully in Oregon, Ohio, on October 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Jean dedicated her life to caring for others as a compassionate and hard working nurse. Though she was affectionately known to family and friends as "Mean Jean", she actually possessed a deeply warm heart, a sharp mind, and a quick wit. She was an exceptionally smart woman who rarely missed an episode of Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune. Night after night, she amazed her family by knowing almost all of the answers before the contestants on screen could even buzz in. Her dedication to her patients, her brilliant intellect, and her warm heart will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Jean is survived by her four devoted children: son Jason and daughters Jodi (Jim), Jami, and Juli (Becca); her brothers, Jim and Bart; her cherished grandchildren, Samantha, Jorden, Dominic, and Sydney; and her five beloved great-grandchildren.

Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband, John; her parents, Noah and Margaret; and her sister, Marie.

There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

A Celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
