Obituary

Jeanne A. (Nee Popelik) Nellett The world became a sadder place on August 2, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. with the passing of our loving mother, Jeanne A. Nellett. Mom died peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo facility. Jeanne was born on August 11, 1922 to Marguerite (Lahaney) Popelik and Joseph Popelik in Toledo, Ohio. She was educated at Good Shepherd Elementary School and Morrison R. Waite High School. Jeanne married George A. Nellett in 1940 and together they raised 5 children. For the first 33 years of her marriage she was a household engineer, caring for her husband, family and home. She was a great cook and a terrific baker, something she found difficult to give up when her hands would no longer allow it. Mom was an avid reader and frequent library visitor. She was also a master puzzle solver, enjoying both number and word puzzles. One of mom's greatest enjoyments was sports. She loved football (especially the OSU Buckeyes) and was looking forward to the upcoming season. She was also an avid Detroit Tiger fan. She took great pleasure in watching golf, but only when her "Tiger" Woods was playing. Life was not always easy for Mom. Widowed young, burying 2 of 5 children and numerous health issues were burdens she bore with a strength and resilience that enabled her to persevere. Mom's joys included spending time with her family, grand pets, and traveling. She visited Rome, Italy, cruised to Alaska with her son and daughter-in-law. Jeanne visited Mt. Rushmore with her daughter, and one of her most memorable trips was to Washington, D.C. that she made with her daughter and her family. Mom was awed and humbled at viewing all the memorials, especially the "Changing of the Guard". When asked recently what her legacy would be, she quickly responded, her children and her great grandchildren, the newest, Maeve, gave her much pride and delight. Surviving are her daughters, Peggy (Lowell) Simon, Theresa (Joe) Windle, son, Richard (Bonnie) Nellett; grandchildren, Wendy Simon, Scott (Liz) Simon, Tammy (Mike Moore) Simon, Ann (Todd) Yeager, Stephen (Marylou) Nellett, Angela (Lee) Rumer, Matthew (Heather) Nellett, Justin (Carrie Wilson) Nellett; step grandsons, Kevin (Carole) Brown and Mark (Laura) Brown; great grandchildren, Christian, Aubree and Connor Simon, Derek Sobczak, Nathan and Nicholas Nellett, Maeve Yeager; step great grandchildren, Tori, Molly and Max Brown; great-great grandson, Ashton Sobczak.
