Obituary

Jeannette C. Smith, 93, of Oregon, Ohio and Sanibel Island, Florida, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. Jeannette was born on October 24, 1921 to Earl and Elsie (Emislie) Coy. She was a 1939 graduate of Clay High School. She was the Holland Cherry Blossom Queen of 1939. On June 21, 1940 in Napoleon, Ohio, she married Edward M. Smith. Jeannette was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and member of the women's group. For many years, Jeannette served as librarian at Starr Elementary School and in 1962 co-founded E.M. Smith & Son Travel Trailer Sales with her husband at the corner of Navarre Avenue and Coy Road, Oregon. Her memberships included: Pi-Sigma- Lambda Sorority, Spade & Trowel Garden Club, member of the 9 Hole league at Chippewa Golf Club, Shell Crafters and Christian Women's Club of Sanibel Island. Jeannette and her husband were avid travelers; visiting London and Rome to visit Pope Paul VI. Her retirement years were spent with her husband on Sanibel Island Florida, where she was an avid shell collector and active with the Shell Fair. Jeannette will be remembered for her Baked Alaska, Rice Krispy Treats and her heart of gold. Jeannette is survived by her children, Janet (Dean) Davis, Patrick (Mary Kay) Smith, and Beverly (Phillip) Hahn; grandchildren, Craig (Pam) Smith, Shawnelle (Steve) Johns, Michael Smith, Nicole (Kevin) Zam, Jeffrey (Lori) Smith, Kaley (Josh) Beard; great-grandchildren, Tyler Johns, Zachary Zam, Jacob Zam, Cole Smith, Kyle Beard, Madison Zam, and Ryan Beard; along with many loving family members and friends. Jeannette was preceded in death by her parents, husband; grandson, Keith Smith; sister, Harriet Koch; and brother, Jack Coy. Friends may call at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Monday, October 19, 2015 from 4:00 pm until time of funeral service at 7:00 pm.
