Jerry Marvin
Nissen
January 16, 1940 – May 27, 2026
Jerry Marvin Nissen, age 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Mercy St. Charles Hospital with his family by his side. He was born on January 16, 1940, in Toledo, Ohio, to Marvin and Evelyn (Phillips) Nissen.
Jerry was a 1958 graduate of Clay High School and went on to study at The Ohio State University for three years. On December 19, 1964, he married Virginia A. (Schweizer) and built a life filled with family, service, and community.
Jerry was the third-generation business owner and manager of Nissen Concrete, the family-owned business started by his grandfather more than 90 years ago. He took great pride in continuing the family legacy and serving the community through the business for many years.
A longtime member of First St. John Lutheran Church, Jerry's life was dedicated to family, friends and service to others. He was a member of the Oregon Volunteer Fire Department for more than 35 years, serving out of Station 1 and holding the rank of Assistant Chief. His dedication to the fire department and the Oregon community was an important part of his life.
Jerry was also a longtime member of the Oregonians, joining in the early 1980s and later serving as past president. He valued the friendships, community involvement, and sense of connection that came with being part of the organization.
In his free time, Jerry enjoyed memorable trips, including Las Vegas, an Alaskan cruise and visiting Disney World with his children and grandchildren. Above all, Jerry cherished time spent with his family and friends.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 61 years, Virginia "Ginny"; children, Cindy (Lisa) Nissen, Andrew (Kerry) Nissen, Barbara Foster; grandchildren Katie (Bryson) Bottini, Noah (Abby) Nissen, Mallory (Brayden) Francis, Emily (Scott) Thompson; great-grandchildren, Luca and Theo Bottini; siblings, Terry (Jill) Nissen and Barbara (Carlton) Schroeder; and many nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Brenda Gilbertson; and brothers, Larry "Skip", Ronald "Butch", Eugene, and Ray Nissen.
The family would like to thank Blessed Home Health and Susie Sevra for excellent care and friendship.
