Joan C. Bailey, 79, of Curtice, Ohio, passed away September 16, 2011, surrounded by her family. She was born in Williston, Ohio in 1932 to Clarence L. and Iva (Robinson) Grant.
Joan was a 1950 graduate of Clay High School and was a lifelong learner, attending classes at the University of Toledo. Joan retired from BP (formerly Standard Oil of Ohio) as a superintendent of management information systems in 1993 after 35 years of service. She was a TWIN (Tribute to Women in Industry) Honoree in 1983.
Joan was an avid Ohio State football fan and loved to travel, both intrastate and abroad. She enjoyed spending time with her family, including attending numerous sporting and academic events of her grandchildren. Joan enjoyed various outdoor activities including camping, boating, water and snow skiing. She was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church (Blackberry) of Martin, Ohio. She was dependable and caring and will be missed by everyone.
Surviving are her children, son Richard D. (Pam) Bailey; daughters, Carol (Kevin) Abbey, Debbie (Burt) Cullum, and Cynthia (Timothy) Smith; grandchildren Melissa Smith, Heather (Roger) Crites, Christopher (Michelle) Bailey, Erin (Noah) Pinegar, Ryan (Heather) Abbey, Courtney Smith and Shannon Abbey; several great-grandchildren and; several step- grand, great grand, and great-great grandchildren; brothers Larry Grant and Dennis (Bonnie) Grant; sisters Sandra (James) Koester, Linda (Thomas) Sigurdson, and Christine Kissling, and many nieces and nephews. Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Richard F. Bailey, her parents, Clarence and Iva Grant and her brother Douglas F. Grant.
Friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd., on Sunday, September 18, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 17877 W. State Rte. 579 in Martin, Ohio on Monday at 11:00 a.m. and where the family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Those wishing an expression of sympathy in Joan'™s name are asked to consider St. Peter Lutheran Church, Jerusalem Township Food Pantry or Hospice of Northwest Ohio
