Obituary

Joan M. Summers, 99, of east Toledo, passed away Friday, January 21, 2011 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Perrysburg. Joan was born in Toledo on January 4, 1912 to Michael and Frances (Szymanowski) Katafiasz. Joan first began her career working for Willys Overland, then at New York Life and on to St. Thomas Aquinas Church and School working as a secretary for 33 years retiring in 1988. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas. Joan was an avid bowler, with bowling a 600 series. Surviving are her step children, Richard (Roberta) Summers, Maryann (Richard) Schwartzkopf, Kathy (Mike) Rauh, Paul (Karen) Summers, Pat (Norb) Klocinski, Terry Thompson; 18 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her special friends, Cathy and Patrick Richards and Sabina Gladieux. Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Lee B. Summers; parents; her siblings and son-in-law, Dick Thompson. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-8pm at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road and where a Scripture Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:15 am and proceed to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 729 White St. for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or to St. Thomas Aquinas.
