Joanna (Hechler) Walsh, 77, surrendered to her 20 year battle with Parkinson's Disease July 31, 2007, at her home, in Swanton surrounded by her family. She celebrated a 45 year marriage to Joseph Walsh Sr. who preceded her in 1999. She was born on September 12, 1929, in Thorpe, West Virginia to Elmer and Clara (Byrd) Hechler. Joanna, the matriarch of 10 children and 26 grandchildren leaves behind memories of young family life on "Utah Street", as well as fond memories of family "cruising" and gatherings, especially Sunday dinners. Influenced by the Rock 'n Roll era Joanna was an avid Elvis Presley fan. These priceless memories are unforgettable.. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church for many years.
Joanna was preceded in death by her mother, Clara Rice; sisters, Roberta Blake and Luella Neal; brothers, Sherwood and Robert Hechler and her grandson, James Walsh Jr. Survived by her brother, Eugene (Maxine) Hechler and her children, Debra (Christopher) Chadwick, Kathleen Fox, Brenda Lindberg, Joseph (Yvonne) Walsh Jr., John (Cherie) Walsh, Michael (Dawn) Walsh, Helen Wells, James (Kim) Walsh, Ann (Paul) Mauder, Rose (Ryan) McDonald, and her 26 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the McDonald Family, Rose, Ryan, Nicole, Jessica, and Jennifer for the unconditional love, care and support Joanna received during her final years. Additional thanks to Heartland Home Healthcare, Hospice and their staff Geri, Tiffany, and Nikki.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 3, 2007 at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, 440 S. Coy Rd., Oregon, Ohio, from 3-9 p.m. with Recitation of the Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. and proceed to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Locust & Erie Sts., Toledo, OH, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Joanna's name are asked to consider Heartland Hospice of Toledo.
