Joel R. Long, 71, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at VA Medical Center, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Joel was born December 7, 1949 in Altoona, Alabama to George and Annie (DeMedisis) Long. Joel was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam War. Following military service, Joel worked as a dye setter with Superior Spinning & Stamping and later Mobius Sorting. His hobbies included: coon hunting, fishing, traveling, cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Joel is survived by his daughters, Bristy Dwyer and Lowella Ridgley; grandchildren, Lindsay, Pepe, Mathew, Kane, Jacob, Toby, Tye, Jazmyne, Aiden, and Livy; great-grandchildren, Marcus, Mark, Luna, and Mason; and sisters, Linda Robinson and Ann Campbell. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Linda; and siblings, George Jr., Glenn, Sharon, Ruby, Larry, June, and Melvin.
The family will receive friends at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road (east of I-280) on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Funeral services Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 1:30 pm in the funeral home. Masks and state mandated social distancing guidelines will be observed. Interment: Lake Township Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Northwood VFW where he was a member.
