Joel Clifton Reeder, 60, passed away on July 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving and supportive family. He was born on September 1, 1965, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Clifton and Leila (Bringe) Reeder.
Joel married Elizabeth "Jane" Reeder on April 18, 1986, and they shared 40 wonderful years together.
Joel worked for 33 years at First Energy -Toledo Edison on overhead lines as a Journeyman Lineman. During his time working, he was able to train many apprentices and teach them all he knew. He also assisted with many natural disasters including Hurricane Katrina. He was also very proud to be a union rep for many years with IBEW Local 245.
Joel found joy in many of life's simple treasures, but his biggest joy was his grandchildren. He would often do anything that would make the grandkids happy.
Joel enjoyed woodworking, deer hunting, golfing, fishing, fixing things around the house or small car projects, being outside, biking and even coaching his children in baseball and wrestling. Joel had many memorable vacations that he enjoyed especially being able to hike in Minnesota, the Upper Peninsula, West Virginia and even California. He was also an avid Green Bay Packers fan as well as the Ohio State Buckeyes. Over the years, he officiated many weddings for friends and family as an ordained minister.
Joel is survived by his wife, Jane Reeder; children, Zach (Jess) Reeder, Dustin (Hunter) Reeder, grandchildren; Louise, Clifton, Virginia, and one on the way, Elizabeth; brother, Curt (Chris) Reeder, brother and sister-in-law, Mark (Cathy) Murtaugh, nieces and nephews, Melissa (Sam) Edens, Olivia (Michael) Mathews, Max (Clare) Reeder, Lyndsy (Chad) Gargas, Lauren (Mike) Smith, and many great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Jean Murtaugh.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and father-in-law, Jim Murtaugh.
Friends and family may visit Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Rd., Millbury, Ohio, 43447, on Friday, July 10, 2026 from 2:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. The family will also receive friends on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at Trinity United Church of Christ, Elliston, Ohio, at 10:00am. A funeral service will follow at 11:00am at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ, Elliston, or Bon Secour-Oncology and Palliative Care.
